Whitchurch in North Shropshire

This is my home town. A small market town of just 8,000 people, surrounded by the gently rolling countryside of North Shropshire. It was originally based on industries that served the surrounding agricultural area but as these have declined it has become more important as a pleasant commuter town. The town has excellent road connections with the surrounding towns of Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Nantwich, Crewe and Market Drayton while further afield the large cities of Chester, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham are within an hours drive. The town is on the main Crewe to Shewsbury rail line and the Llangollen branch of the Shropshire Union Canal passes through the edge of the town.
The town is an excellent base from which to visit surrounding areas. Snowdonia National Park and the Peak District National Park are within an hours drive while the beautiful landscapes of South Shropshire are even closer. The town itself has a high proportion of old historic buildings within the centre and nearby are the local beauty spots of Brown Moss, Grinshill, Colemere and Bickerton Hill. Information on accomodation can be found at the town Heritage and Tourist Information Centre
